Monday 9/18: Colorado Springs, CO to Montrose, CO

Monday September 18th
Colorado Springs, CO to Montrose, CO
247 Miles

Today was another successful day, with Jonas and Sal completing 247 miles. This is now the 7th day in a row that we’ve completed all miles after switching motorcycles. Team 36 continues to inch up in the standings and we’re now at 60th place out of 77 teams. Only 36 teams (47%) have completed all 2463 miles.

Today’s route was highly anticipated, and it did not disappoint. The first challenge for the riders was Skyline Drive, a very narrow one-lane road with rough pavement and steep drop-offs. Watch today’s highlight video for some footage of this very challenging route.

Stage 10 Recap

After Skyline, the riders crossed Royal Gorge Bridge, the highest suspension bridge in America. The sights there were outstanding.

Later in the day the riders crossed the Continental Divide at Monarch Pass (11,312 ft). The motorcycle performed well, but our van wouldn’t start because of vapor lock!

The finish for the day was in Montrose, where the city hosted a block party with a variety of food trucks.
